In Living Memory exhibition at the John Bowen Gallery, Town Hall Malmesbury

Daniel’s Well, by Julian Barrow 1996

In Living Memory is a project celebrating artists who have lived and made work in Malmesbury and its surrounding area, from the 1940s to the present day. A partnership between Caerbladon and Athelstan Museum, we have set out to capture the stories of the many artists and makers who contributed to town’s cultural life and offered inspiration to successive generations.

The In Living Memory exhibition at John Bowen Gallery drew on the private collections of David Hendry and Alice Langtree, and featured work by artists such as Julian Barrow, Brian Neal, Gerald Cox, Roy Hewish and Jehanne le Quesne. We thank Alice and Andrew Hendry for contributing to the project.

All works in this exhibition were for sale, by silent auction. Proceeds contributed to the larger project and charitable causes.

We also had a Show and Tell event at the Rausing Building from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 5 November. We invited local people to bring artworks from their homes, and to share stories about the artists and how they came to own the work.

We thank Malmesbury Carnival and the Warden and Freeman of Malmesbury for their kind support for the In Living Memory Project.
